PROPERTIES and USES OF MAIN HERBS USED IN THE PREPARATION:

Boerhaavia Difusa (Punarnava) :
Root is bitter, stomachic laxative diuretic, expectorent, diaphoretic and emetic. It is highly useful in phthisis,insomnia, Rheumatism and diseases of the eyes.

Melia Azadirachta (Neem):
Root-Bark and fruit are astringent, tonic and antiperiodic. Bark is bitter, tonic astringent, antiperiodic and also vermifuge. Fruit is purgative, emollient and anthelmintic. The herb also possesses antispirochoetal and emmenagague properties. It is highly useful in glandular swelling, boils, ulcers, skin diseases and inflammation of the eyes.

Vites Negundo:
Leaves are externally antiparasitic and powerfully discutient. Internally leaves are alterative, aromatic, bitter and vermifuge anodyne. Root is tonic, febrifuge, expectorant and diuretic. Fruit is nervine cephalic and emmenagogue Flowers are cool and astrigant. It is used for syphilis, veneral diseases and other syphilitic skin diseases. It is also given in catarrhal fever with heaviness of head and dullness of hearing.

Berberis Aristata:
The extract is tonic, stomachic , astringent antiperiodic, diaphoretic, antipiretic and alterative. The root-bark is used externally in the infection of the eye lids. The extract is also used for piles, boils, abrasions and ulceration of the skin.

Emblica Officinalis (Amalaki) :
Fruit is refrigerant heart tonic, tonic to brain, prevents vicious humours in stomach and intestines. It is highly useful as a collgrium in opthalmia and also a valuable remedy in anemia, jaundice and dyspepsia.
